The Game

Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Onimusha: Way of the Sword (鬼武者 〜剣の道〜) is an all-new entry in Capcom's legendary Onimusha series, released on September 4, 2026. Developed and published by Capcom Co., Ltd., this swordplay action game reimagines the franchise with modern combat, a dark historical setting, and a protagonist drawn from Japanese legend.

Set in the early years of the Tokugawa shogunate, the game follows a young Miyamoto Musashi — modeled after the legendary Toshiro Mifune — as he arrives in Kyoto seeking to prove himself as the greatest swordsman under heaven. Instead, he encounters the Genma: demonic beings that have infiltrated the capital, shrouding it in clouds of Malice.

Killed by a Genma-possessed Sasaki Ganryu, Musashi awakens in the underworld, where a mysterious Man in White forcibly fuses the Oni Gauntlet to his arm and sends him back. Now armed with supernatural power he never wanted, Musashi must cut through the Genma menace — and come to terms with what it means to walk the way of the sword.
